This episode dives deep into how government agencies such as the FBI and CIA had an impact on the Civil Rights Movement and other political organizations over the years. Just because people have criminalized & dehumanized a whole race of people does not make it the reality. After listening, you may be forced to ask yourself the following driving questions.…Why isn't slavery discussed as capitalism in History Lessons? Who does America really belong to? Who are the real terrorists in America? How is racism justified? Can we pretend the oppression of African American people is not real? All smiles champions. Welcome to mind, elevation health and wealth. I am your host, Syrah, Dhawan, and educator, emotional healer and entrepreneur. For the month of February year, 2023. We were celebrating black history culture and how we can heal worldviews. Uh, by being an ally. By understanding, and by increasing our knowledge of blackness, Blackish and black excellence. We will also learn how across all cultures. We are all the same conduct different since February only has 28 days. I'm doing the final black history month episode on March 5th, 2023. I took a small break and I'm glad to be back. I missed my loyal listening champions. This session, we will explore. African-Americans contributions to America's economic wealth. Session 12 contributions to America's economic wealth. Listen and listen well champions, whether you have faith in God, faith in the universe or faith in self, it is important for you to know the true history of how the United States of America has benefited from the free labor of Africans sold into slavery. Human trafficking. I will start by defining specific terms that will be used during this session for clarification. Definition. Abolitionists. During civil war era. A person who advocated and supported, ending and abolishing slavery in the United States. An abolitionist. Definition of contraband. During the civil war era and enslaved black person who escaped to freedom. Which was considered illegal at the time. And brought to freedom after passing the union lines and the union lines. Where the free states. Contraband slaves. Definition of capitalism. An economic system of wealth. By private individuals, corporations or state owned means of wealth. Capitalism. Definition of economics. Financially the science that deals with the production distribution and consumption of goods and services. Or the material welfare of humankind. Economics. The definition of reparations. Reparations are compensation and money, material or labor payable to make amends for the wrong or injury done to a people or a country. Reparations. The definition of oppression. The exercise of authority or power in a burdensome cruel or unjust manner. An act of unjust restraints, the feeling of being heavily burdened mentally or physically by negative conditions. Oh, oppression. The definition of an ally. An ally is to unite with, to associate or connect by some form of mutual relationship or friendship. Uh, person, group or nation that are associated with another group or nation for a common cause or purpose. An ally or allies. Now that we have reviewed those terms, let's begin. Contributions to America's wealth due to economics of slavery in the United States. 400 years of. Free labor and the United States with the major crops. Growing cotton. Tobacco. And sugar cane. Slave grown cotton provided over half of all us export earnings by 1840. The Southern part of the United States group, 70% of the world's textile industry states, such as Alabama, South Carolina, Mississippi, Georgia, and Texas. Growing all this cotton lit to manufacturing of the cotton, which was being established in the Northern states where railroads were being constructed by contraband slaves. Then in the south, the chain gang prisoners were forced into free labor building the railroads as prison inmates. The term chain gang is the act of chaining prison inmates together and forcing them to do extremely hard physical labor, like. Building roads, railroads, buildings, and clearing land as punishment. If you ever watched the comedy movie called life, starring Eddie Murphy, Martin Lawrence, Bernie Mac, and Bokeem Woodbine. If you haven't washed it, I'll give you small details. Two men were accused of crime and sentenced to life in prison. Which was Eddie Murphy and Martin Lawrence. While serving their time in prison, they were forced to work on a chain gang for punishment. Although the movie is a funny movie and rest in peace to Bernie Mac. He's one of my favorite comedians. Who play the hilarious role in that movie? The truth behind the reality of the movie is not funny. Black men in the past were arrested for escaping freedom or arrested falsely accused of bogus crimes. Like. Looking a white man in the eye or speaking to a white woman, which forced them into prisons and chain gangs for free labor to build the United States railways buildings, homes, monuments. All of which led to the north and south feuding over the abolishment of slavery. The emancipation proclamation was signed and in effect in 1863. The American civil war was fought and the union army won and the Confederate army lost the civil war in 1865. Let's keep in mind that black Americans were forced to assist their masters of the Confederate army. When you see those Confederate flags, Keep in mind the Confederates were the ones who wanted to keep. Black people, African people enslaved. For financial gain although there were claims that the Confederate army did not allow black soldiers. There are unedited photographs that proven fact there were black soldiers fighting for the Confederate army. In fact, black American soldiers served in the civil war. World war one. World war II and the Vietnam war. Fighting bravely and boldly on the front lines to uphold the freedom of the United States of America. Only to be discharged from the military and be beaten and jailed. By the United States police. An example of this would be Mr. Isaac Woodard. Was a black world war II veteran who was beaten by police and blinded by the beading. Only two hours after being honorably. Discharge from the United States military in 1946. Even the contributions African Americans made to the United States. Military was not enough to be treated as a human in America. We have discussed how the contribution of over 400 years of free labor. I helped to build the United States economy and wealth. We have discussed how the contribution of black American war veterans. Uh, serving in the United States military have helped the United States in more ways than one. So we now know the truth about the foundation of the United States. However, we can not forget that America. Was actually stolen from the native Americans back in 1492, when Christopher Columbus sailed the ocean blue. Hopefully you all know about the story of the genocide and mass murder of the native Americans, the indigenous people on their own land right here in America, which was then called the new world. Rest peacefully to the neighbor American souls that were lost. I know this discussion about black Americans contributions does not add up to the United States history that you learn in school. There was a complete eraser of the major contributions and the benefits that the ancestors of black Americans provided for the United States. Completely erased. Non-existent. We were only taught about enslaved black Americans, poor black Americans, criminalized, black Americans, lazy black Americans And the land of the free home of the brave never. The contributions made by the black Americans. Black Americans were all freed. Finally on June 19th. 1865. This date is now a holiday in some states called Juneteenth. Freed black Americans were physically free. But not financially, mentally and emotionally free. Black Americans were never truly given the opportunity to build and create wealth in their own communities after their freedom. Some will argue. Yes. They were given lead. They were able to build their own communities and schools. Black Americans were never given 40 acres and a mule that was promised to them after freedom from the United States government. Uh, black Americans never received reparations for payment of the physical labor or physical abuse during slavery. The United States government actually did pay reparations to the Japanese Americans who were interned during world war two, but did not pay reparations to black people for the enslavement of their ancestors or for their participation in any war. In fact. We will now discuss some of the resilient black communities. The civil rights, movement and political parties that were established and thrived between 1863 and up until 1970s. You are probably thinking what. Where are these political parties and community that now. You're about to have a quick history lesson. I can only discuss a few that I have researched on. However, there were other communities that thrived as well. There were other communities that were destroyed as well, but let's start this timeline journey so that you can understand. The oppression. July 13th, 1863. New York city draft massacre. A whole week of violence. That was an insurrection. Yes. An insurrection similar to the insurrection that we saw Donald Trump evoke on the United States Capitol building. Back in 2021. Two years ago. When recruitment started for the army. A mob of white, new Yorkers, March through the city, they went to attack and murder African-Americans they set the city's African-American orphan asylum on fire. They shot burned and hanged. African-Americans. Many were thrown into rivers to drown. Over 400 people were killed in this massacre. 2 years later. An 1865 Freedmen's town. Houston, Texas. This was considered the fourth ward of Houston, Texas. You had many businesses like restaurants and jazz clubs, homes were built. However, the city denied and prevented African Americans access. To city services and created rules to prevent them from getting jobs. Then Houston city planning commission decided they wanted to expand downtown Houston and pushed the African-Americans out of the community. There was a housing project created called Sam fully bay courts and Freedmen's town. But after world war II, the sample. Lee bay courts community was given to the white military families only. The rest of Freedmen's town, Texas was lost to the development of downtown Houston. Later on in 1985, it was designated a registered historical site. It doesn't change the fact that the land was given and then easily taken away. Eight years later, April 13th, 1873. On an Easter Sunday in Colfax, Louisiana. When African-American men back then were part of the Republican party. And the Republican governor won the vote and gain control of white Democrats. There were over 2,400 black Republican voters. And approximately. 2,200 white democratic voters. The white Democrats out of anger created a white militia and challenged the mostly black militia under the governor. On this Easter Sunday in 18 73, 300 armed white men and white supremacists organizations killed approximately. 150 African Americans. Some of the white men were convicted. However, they were released when the United States Supreme court in United States vs Cruickshank ruled, the enforcement act was unconstitutional. No one was ever arrested by the state of Louisiana or local officials. 25 years later. November the 10th, 1898 in Wilmington, North Carolina. There was an integrated town. Three black Americans were on the city council. In the city of Wilmington. Black people worked as firemen and policemen and magistrates. African-Americans maintain power of Wilmington, North Carolina city government. With anger, 800 white citizens went to the county courthouse and produced. What they called the white declaration of independence. In this declaration, it stated we, the undersigned citizens here by declared that we will no longer be ruled at will never again be ruled by men of African origin. The next day. A mob of 2000 men proceeded with an insurrection. Once again. Much like the insurrection that we saw Donald Trump, evoke on the United States Capitol building January of 2021. History, continuing to repeat itself. Black leaders were put in jail and some were sent out of town. Thriving black neighborhoods were burned down. In Wilmington. The government was overthrown. Thousands of black citizens fled. In 1900. The North Carolina legislator stripped African-Americans of the vote. Using Jim Crow laws. This was what started folder suppression. These massacres were designed to prevent black Americans from being in the United States government, prevent them from owning land. Prevent them from economic advancement. Prevent them from education, freedom of press, religion and labor rights. These were massacres inflicted on black Americans to maintain white supremacy. And the United States back in 1898. Eight years later. We finally make it to the 19 hundreds. African-Americans are still trying to prosper politically and economically. September 24th, 1906, Atlanta, Georgia. Blacks were once again, becoming involved in the political field, black Americans were establishing businesses, creating social networks and building up the black community in Georgia. They were called the black elite. They had successfully acquired wealth, education and prestige. They even consider themselves as black and leads to be above the actual black working class. Many whites were uncomfortable with the black elites, the whites blame, the black working class for rising crime rates and blame them for sexual violence against white women. White supremacist organizations. We're finding ways to take down the black elites and the black working class. During reconstruction of 1867 and 1876. Black men gained the right to vote. The 1906 governor believed in the fear of black upper-class. They believe that black shit stay in their place, which means blacks should always be inferior to whites. There should never be black upper-class as usual false accusation was made in the newspaper. Of course, the media back then was the newspaper. The accusation was of a black man assaulting a white woman. This was never a proven fact that the assault ever happened. However, thousands of white men and mobs went through the black established neighborhoods in Georgia central business district attacking black owned businesses, smashing the windows of the well-known barbershop, killing the business owners, assaulting black women. The white polies armed with rifles protected the white properties while they allow white mobs to destroy and invade black neighborhoods over 100 black Americans were killed during this Georgia massacre in 1906. 13 years later. Other communities are still trying to survive and thrive in America. September 20th, 19, 19. And Elaine Arkansas. The Elaine Arkansas massacre of the sharecroppers. For those of you that don't know the sharecropper was created after slavery as a job title for black Americans that were still working on the land, tending to crops. For low wages or sometimes just to pay their rent, to stay on the land. Because there were not jobs available to purchase their own property. A group of sharecroppers met in a small church in Elaine, Arkansas. They were upset about their low wages. So they hired a lawyer to fight for the right to be paid fairly. Their plans were to join the progressive farmers and household union of America. It was a union. The white land owners back there. We're similar to predatory lenders in the world today, they allow the sharecroppers to create high interest debt, knowing they would never make enough money to pay off the debt. So white farm owners knew this would keep the sharecroppers basically working for free. Local white men and landowners found out about the union meeting at the church that the black Americans have made with this lawyer. And they fired shots into the small church. A white man was shot during the gunfire and troops were sent out. The governor, the United States government, the governor called for soldiers and order the soldiers to shoot, to kill any Negro that refuse to surrender immediately. They killed at least 200 African-Americans or more. They kill men, women, and children. This was also a time period when black soldiers were returning back home from world war. Now many whites believed these black war veterans were a threat. Keep that in mind. Two years later. Traveling towards the west of the United States, the massacre. That is the most known. And most televised in recent news media. May 31st, 1921. Tulsa, Oklahoma black wall street massacre. And the beautiful, well established and thriving. Greenwood neighborhood of Tulsa, Oklahoma. We just learned about how black soldiers were considered a threat coming back from world war one. Over in Elaine Arkansas. Well, And Tulsa, Oklahoma. This area was referred to as black wall street. This community had black owned banks. Black owned hotel, which would probably be like Hilton hotels. If it hadn't been bombed black owned cafes, clothing stores, movie theaters. A remarkable school system. They all had indoor plumbing in their homes. It was all around. Black upper class. I have to mention that the founder of black wall street was a black man from Arkansas. Named oh, w girly. He moved to Tulsa and purchased 40 acres of land and sold different plots to other African-Americans. He did this to allow black Americans to escape, the harsh oppression of the south. The black dollar only circulated. Within this black community and remained in the Greenwood Oklahoma district. Six black families flew and owned their own planes. A white woman claimed to be assaulted by young black elevator attendant. And it calls white mobs to kill over 300 people, a hundred were injured and the United States government bombed the city. 35 city blocks went up into flames. The land in the Greenwood district was never recovered by its original owners. Recently in 2021, they found mass graves of bodies that were buried. No reparations were given to the survivors. I decided to take a personal vacation to go visit Greenwood district of Tulsa, Oklahoma. And all we found and supported a black owned coffee shop near the monument where they were constructed for the hundredth year anniversary. And I also found a supported a black owned bookstore. Other than that. The city is just a tourist site. Once again, no reparations for the families, even though it was the United States government that bombed their town. Even though there are surviving relatives of those who lost their land during the bombing and massacre. No reparations for those families at this time. Two years after Tulsa. We make our way back to the south. This time, January 5th, 1923. In Rosewood, Florida. Another black community doing pretty well in the south was destroyed due to. A false accusation by a young married white woman. Back then. The newspaper media would portray black men in a negative way. They would make comments that black men were out to rape their white women. It made it easy for a white woman to say she was harmed or threatened by a black man. The same thing happened to young immaterial later in Mississippi, back in 1955. Rest in peace to the innocent young man that was terrorized and murdered by a white mob. However and Rosewood, Florida. A white lady claim. She was assaulted by a black man who escaped a prison chain gang. Even though there was no evidence that any chain gang member had escaped. White men terrorize rosewoods black residents, the white mob fired into one of the homes of black resident and the black man fire back in self-defense. The black residents fought back. Then 200 to 300 white men came and attacked and killed approximately 40 or more black men, women and children on site burning the whole town of Rosewood to the ground. Many of the black residents fled to Gainesville, Florida, and never returned back to the land. They rightfully owned. Once again, land and property lost with no reparations. When does the terrorism stop? Many other communities through the years were burned, destroyed. Some even flooded out by white mobs and the United States government. 31 years later in 1954, the civil rights movement of nonviolent resistance, civil disobedience campaigns, and peaceful protests. Started. The United States, government branch, FBI, federal bureau of investigation. I worked hard to destroy the movement. After the non-violent civil rights movement started in 1954 in 1956. The federal bureau of investigation started its counter intelligence program called COINTELPRO. Where the government illegally conducted culvert projects created to illegally install surveillance, wiretaps, and disrupt political organizations designed to protect. And disrupt political organizations designed to protect black Americans COINTELPRO with threatened the lives of civil rights activists in order to stop the political movement for human rights. Eventually the movement ended and ended with the assassination Dr. Martin Luther king Jr. In 1968. October 15th, 1966, the black Panther party for self-defense was founded as the most influential militant black power organization. Organized by Huey Newton. Bobby seal and Fred Hampton. These young black men were political activists, creating the black Panther party as a political party. They were disappointed with the civil rights movement efforts to protect blacks in the south. There were infuriated by the history of oppression, terrorism, and violence by police and the us government. The black Panthers knew the history of all those massacres we just discussed earlier in this podcast. They knew of the innocent men, women, and children being murdered. Huey Newton. In his famous picture, he sits in a throne chair wearing a black Baret and a black leather jacket. He is holding a rifle in his right hand. And a spear in his left hand, the bottom of the photo reads his words. The racist dog policemen must withdraw immediately from our communities, cease their wanting murder and brutality and torture of black people, or face the wrath of the armed people. This original photo. Isn't a collection at the Smithsonian national museum of African-American history and culture. The black Panther party challenged the police and protected black citizens from police brutality. The black Panther parties, community service programs were called survival programs that provided food, clothing, transportation, afterschool programs. Before Fred Hampton. He was assassinated. He was in the process of creating a hospital, just like the civil rights movement. The United States, government branch, FBI, federal bureau of investigation, COINTELPRO, infiltrated, and ended the black Panther party. By blackmailing, a black Panther informant use to strategically assassinate Fred Hampton. The movie called Judas and the black Messiah is a great film created to show the bravery and resilience of the young black men in the movement and how COINTELPRO was able to successfully destroy the political organization. Later members of the black Panther party worked with the underground black liberation army and underground white organization. A group of white allies for the movement called. The weather underground. Weather underground was a far left Millicent organization started in 1969 by some young white college kids, including a white woman leader and ally for black liberation. By the name of Bernadine Dohrn. This white group was violent and actually bombed us. Government offices stories told by the child of Bernadine Dorn admits that the weather underground helped Assata Shakur escape from her life sentence in prison. Assata Shakur was our favorite rapper rest in peace, Tupac, HSA cores. It was Tupac's aunt and godmother. Tupac Shakur wrote about his aunt Assata Shakur on his 1991 track called words of wisdom. Assata Shakur was a political activist. She left the black Panther party to go underground with a black liberation army. They successfully helped her escape from prison. And then assisted her escape to freedom safely to Cuba. These organizations and leaders were fighting for civil rights in all forms to protect African-Americans from white terrorist police brutality and the corruption of the United States government. Trying to help build thriving communities without the threat of more massacres and terrorist attacks from white mobs. But then we have what I would call the strategic silent massacre to black communities. Some may call it the war on drugs. 1968 United States, president Lyndon, B Johnson. Decided the government should focus efforts on illegal drug use 1971, president Nixon declared a war on drugs, 1970s, the crack epidemic when the government agency C I a central intelligence unit flew in cocaine to Los Angeles, California. Later to be diluted into crack cocaine, which was distributed to the black community. The agenda was created to push crack cocaine into the black communities, which created drug dealers, gang wars, and crack addiction and crack babies. You can fact check by reading reviews from the justice department's investigation. The CIA has always experimented with the effects of drugs, not only by pushing into the black communities and neighborhoods in Los Angeles, but the CIA also confessed to MK ultra drug experiments on military personnel and prisoners. In 1950s, the CIA is a government agency that would test drugs to control human behavior. So the CIA already knew the negative psychological effects of crack cocaine. They knew how crack cocaine could be used. Used to destroy generations of black Americans and black communities. This allow the government to create laws, to give long prison sentences for crack possession, the affordable black community drug created. Black on black crime laws, gang affiliation laws. Once again, to enslave and prison and oppress the black community. Long prison sentences for marijuana possession and to marijuana drug dealers. Now. Marijuana is sold legally, but capitalize by white organizations and dispensary dealers, majority white legal marijuana dispensary dealers were allowed to add a hundred billion to the economy in 21 states. However, there are currently black men and women in prison right now, still serving long prison terms for selling marijuana during the government's war on drugs. Hey, you. The champion for life changes. I'm challenged. You knew to be open to understanding. That in a world of economics and wealth in the United States of America, we have learned how white supremacists in the United States of America systematically used African-Americans to build a wealthy economy and continue to strategically destroy destruct abuse, and oppress the African-American people policing, which originally started during slavery as a police could capture torture and hang black slaves. If they attempted to escape to freedom. Um, the FBI CIA COINTELPRO can infiltrate and destroy any organization designed by black Americans or allies for black Americans to fight for civil rights or to protect black communities from the terrorism of white supremacist groups. Refuse to pay reparations for the injuries, loss, and wrongdoings to African-American people. Even though the main contributors to the U S economy and 17 hundreds and 18 hundreds were slave labor producing. Consumer goods that were the basis of world trade, including coffee, cotton, run, sugar, tobacco key word. Slavery played a critical role in the economic development of the United States of America. Slavery free laborers for political correctness, indentured servants, human contraband. When escaping to freedom. These were people originally of African origin. Until they were forced to breed and be born on American soil. And we now call them. African Americans or black Americans. The main contributors to the U S economy in 18, 15 to 1850 was the industrial revolution and the railroads, which were built by African-Americans, which helped also create national transportation networks that are still functional and being used right now today in the United States. African-Americans are contributors to the U S economy and creating inventions science and health industry, professional sports music, industry, fashion, industry tech industry. The resilient and empowering man. Mr. O w girly. Took his wealth. And purchase 40 acres of land so that other black people could afford to purchase and build a successful wealthy community back in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Mr. Girly could have chosen to use his own wealth to buy a mansion in Beverly Hills. He used his wealth to help support and build a successful community that was later destroyed by white terrorist. The mindset in the early 19 hundreds, black Americans had a mindset of black empowerment and desire to prosper together with love. Building an uplifting their own communities. Imagine if all the currently wealthy black Americans use their wealth to buy land. Massacres and oppression that stolen from the African-Americans that rightfully owned and operated businesses and built homes. As been the years of oppression that produce the mindset Kanye west speaks of when he quotes, they make us hate ourselves. And love their wealth. The national football league, peaceful protest of Colin Kaepernick. Colin took a knee during the national Anthem to protest against police brutality. the NFL blackballed him and basically implying the black American football players just stay in their place, stay on that field and play the game. Does that sound familiar to what we heard in the Atlanta, Georgia massacre? There was a complete eraser of the major contributions of African-Americans in sports and athletics. Eraser of major inventions of African-Americans. Major medical breakthroughs by African-Americans. Eraser. African American military. He rose. Eraser of African-Americans in science. A ratio of African Americans resilience. Each week. I promote a book in Arthur's that have impacted my life or help me heal by increasing my knowledge and awareness of experiences outside of my own. I discussed briefly about Colin Kaepernick's peaceful protest against police brutality and how the white owned NFL blackball him. We know black athletes contributes so much into the entertainment world of sports and create billions for white team owners. Check out the true history of how black American athletes were dominating the world of sports, but quickly refused rights to ownership of professional teams in America. If you love sports and you want to dive deeper into the history of race politics and the true history of American sports. One of my favorite books by William C Rhoden.$40 million slaves. It's a great book. If you want to dive deeper into your research about the free labor slaves in America. The book slavery's capitalism, a new history of America's economic development. Bye. Then Bechard. There's also a book. The American slave coast, a history of the slave breeding industry. By Ned and constant sublet. Those are the books that I'm working, man, for you to just do your own research, check your own facts. We know that was so much history in the slave trade. We know Africa played a part in the slave trade. But we cannot forget and remember all of the contributions. That African Americans and black Americans made. Being bred. Raped. Physically abused. While working. Extremely hard. In those fields. To create an economy of wealth for the United States of America. That will help support the podcast as well i appreciate you all You are now a champion for healing and change. I was not able to cover everything in the session. So here are some quick recaps. See black Americans as nation builders and economy increasers instead of animalistic thugs and criminals, just because people have criminalized in the humanized, a whole race of people does not mean it is the reality. After listening, ask yourself these questions. Who does America really belong to? Who are the real terrorist in America? How do you justify racism? How can we pretend that oppression of African American people is not real? What type of person. Is really considered a true American Patriot. If you ever thought that people of color are lazy. Won't work violent. Poor by choice. Remember the sacrifice of the enslaved people and the free labor used to build the economic wealth of the United States. Although there are other races. That are not white, but they are steel anti-black American. They tend to not know or forget that black Americans built the United States with free labor and were born and raised on American soil. Those are just some recaps that I want you to think about and consider. If you decide to be an ally for the black American community, or if you are black in America. And you've been brainwashed or whitewash to believe that. Your fellow black Americans are just lazy. And, you don't want to admit the fact that a whole race of people have been oppressed in America. I have to admit that I am not perfect. And there were times in my life as a black American woman. That I wouldn't have thought that oppression was a real thing. I thought that a lot of things that happened to the black community were because of. The choices that were made in the black community. I was not aware and open to things that were being purposefully done to our movements. Purposely pushed into our neighborhoods. How the education system. Still is designed. Too. Allow black and brown children to fail. As an educator. That is a very hard pill for me to swallow it. And I can only do my part by continue to educate. And remind. All people of color, have their worth. And all my students, black and brown. All races of my students that you're valuable. And you're an asset to the United States of America. If you're here. Regardless to what your race is and that you should treat all people. With dignity. And respect. We all have to be allies for each other in the world. Where we are still faced. With white terrorism. If you are an ally for the black community, understand the contributions of all races in the United States and the whole world. We all benefit from the knowledge of historical facts.
